Analysis of intergeneric sexual hybridization between transgenic Brassica oleracea and Sinapis alba

Abstract: Sinapis alba possesses a number of desirable traits that can be employed to broaden genetic variability in Brassica oleracea or B. napus. Using transgenic B. oleracea (CC, 2n = 18) as paternal plants and non-transgenic S. alba (SS, 2n = 24) as maternal plants, 11 hybrid plants were successfully obtained by using a combination of ovary culture and embryo rescue, while 2 seedlings of the reciprocal cross were generated but lost during the propagation. The hybridity of these plants was confirmed by flower color a… Show more

“…It also performs well in dry and hot environments. The plant possesses many important agronomic traits such as tolerance/resistance against Alternaria blight [2,3,4], Sclerotinia stem rot [5], beet cyst nematode [6], flea beetles [7,8], pod shattering [9,10], high temperature [11], and drought [12]. Currently, the importance of this plant has increased due to the identification of antioxidants, antibiotics, and anti-cancer chemicals in its seed extract [13].…”

“…The bZIP TFs are reported to play active roles in induction of resistance in Arabidopsis ( Jakoby et al., 2002 ; Lee et al., 2006 ). Overexpression of MebZIP3 and MebZIP5 has been found to enhance callose deposition leading to improved resistance to cassava blight ( Li et al., 2017 ). Enhanced resistance to S. sclerotiorum and P. sojae has been observed in transgenic soybean through overexpression of the GmbZIP15 gene ( Zhang et al., 2021b ).…”

“…Si la meiosis es irregular y los pares de cromosomas se segregan de manera anormal, se puede esperar esterilidad de polen (Fuchs et al, 2011). Li et al (2017) demostraron la asociación entre la viabilidad del polen y la constitución cromosómica del híbrido intergenérico en cruzamientos entre Brassica oleracea L. y Sinapis alba L., donde casi todas las plantas F1 eran altamente masculinas estériles.…”
