Analysis of the Current Status and Hot Technologies of Coal Spontaneous Combustion Warning

Feiran Wang,
Zhansuo Ji,
Haiyan Wang
et al.

Abstract: Coal spontaneous combustion disasters are one of the most serious types of mine disasters in China at present, posing a huge threat to underground personal safety and coal production operations. In order to prevent and control coal spontaneous combustion hazards and construct an efficient early warning system, this paper presents a review of coal spontaneous combustion early warning based on the Web of Science database search of 583 papers related to coal spontaneous combustion early warning collected from 200… Show more

“…Not only do these events result in substantial economic and resource losses but they also severely damage the environment. More than 70% of the coal mines in over 130 mining areas in 25 major coal-producing provinces and regions in China are plagued by the hidden danger of coal spontaneous combustion. Among them, 40 large and medium-sized mining areas experience severe natural coal fires. Over 200 million tons of coal resources in China have been wasted due to coal spontaneous combustion . Furthermore, 60% of mine fires in China are caused by coal spontaneous combustion .…”

“…The spontaneous combustion of coal seams poses a persistent hazard in mining operations, presenting a challenge for effective mitigation. This phenomenon not only releases harmful gases but also triggers secondary disasters, such as gas and coal dust explosions. Power plant flue gas contains high concentrations of CO 2 , N 2 , and other inert gases, which can be injected into mining areas to achieve CO 2 gas sequestration by exploiting the adsorption properties of coal rock on CO 2 . This approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also inhibits the spontaneous combustion of coal left in the goaf .…”

“…The most common is the shed-type CSS, which is used in many power plants because it is economical and easy to construct. However, the major challenge with indoor coal storage is the spontaneous combustion of coal [1]. Factors of spontaneous combustion of coal include volatilization characteristics, storage period, size of coal particles, moisture, and impurities [2,3].…”
