Analysis of the Environmental Efficiency of the Chinese Transportation Sector Using an Undesirable Output Slacks-Based Measure Data Envelopment Analysis Model

Abstract: Many countries are attempting to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions while increasing the productivity and efficiency of their industries. An undesirable-output-oriented data envelopment analysis (DEA) model with slacks-based measure (SBM) was used to evaluate the changes in the environmental efficiency of the transportation sector in 30 Chinese provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) between 2003 and 2012. The potential for decreasing CO2 emissions and energy saving was also assessed. Transp… Show more

“…factories [4,9,15,19], power plants [6,10,14,18,32], supplier selection [8], regions and cities [7,12,13,16,17,21], and transportation [33]. Particularly, unlike previous studies, we present a generalized way to evaluate any condition with regard to the different levels of environmental pressures or environmental concerns.…”

“…Modelos de efi ciência ambiental têm sido sustentados pelo quadro teórico da fronteira de possibilidades de produção (FPP), visto que ele permite a inclusão de recursos naturais e da poluição (bem não desejável) na função de produção Tyteca, 1996;Chiu et al, 2012;Song;Hao;Zhu, 2015).…”

“…Therefore, they applied carbon emission into the efficiency evaluation model as a "bad output" to construct undesirable SBM model. At present, the undesirable SBM model was widely used in the study about the performance evaluation of carbon emission [18][19][20][21][22]. There were also many research took attention to China's provincial carbon emission efficiency, the basic conclusion was that China's provincial carbon performance were differences, and showed gradually rising space trend from the west to the east areas at present [23,24].…”
