Analysis of Ventricular Wall Motion Using Color-Coded Tissue Doppler Imaging System

Abstract: We developed a new color Doppler system by which Doppler signals associated with tissue motion can be determined, and called it the tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) system. Using high-speed scanning, the frame rate was 26–38 F/s, and the pulse repetition frequency was 4.5–6.0 kHz. Under these conditions, the lowest measurable velocity was improved to 2 mm/s. Wall motion toward the transducer was coded as red, and that away from the transducer, as blue. To examine the accuracy and validity of the measured velocity … Show more

“…In this procedure, the tissue motion velocity is recorded by detecting the Doppler shift associated with posterior dispersion of ultrasound from myocardial tissue. TDI can be subdivided into color-coded TDI [11][12][13][14] and pulsed TDI [15][16][17]. Myocardial velocity, determined using these methods, was compared to wall motion recorded by conventional M-mode echocardiography, and its accuracy and clinical usefulness were demonstrated.…”

“…First, we measured the motion velocity only at the endocardial portion of the LV wall and, therefore, could not calculate the transmyocardial velocity gradient. 16,17 Consequently, disease-associated influences on the motion of the whole heart cannot be ruled out. 17 However, motion velocity at the endocardial or mid-wall portion is generally higher than that at the epicardial portion.…”

“…This new technique is expected to provide valuable information on LV wall motion abnormalities in patients with heart disease. [15][16][17] Cilnidipine is a novel and unique 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative calcium antagonist that has a hypotensive action of slow-onset and prolonged duration, and has potent inhibitory action on L-and N-type voltage-dependent calcium channels. Clinical usefulness of this calcium antagonist is expected as a result from its heart-protecting action in addition to its antihypertensive effect.…”

“…The 53 patients included 30 patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (mean age: 52±18 years, range: 28-79 years), 16 patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy 21 (mean age: 59±11 years, range: 45-79 years), and 7 patients with cardiac amyloidosis (mean age: 56±17 years, range: 34-77 years). Twenty patients, who had been admitted with the chief complaints of chest pain, palpitations, dyspnea or heart murmur, were included as controls.…”
