Analysis on car driver’s speed at Federal Route FT050

Abstract

Johor is one of the states in Malaysia that records high accident statistics, especially on Federal Route FT050, Batu Pahat-Ayer Hitam. One of the elements causing an accident is the attitude of a driver who drives too fast and ignores the warning and speed limit signs. The study aimed to determine whether the warning signboard’s impact on driving speed at the before- and after-study locations. The GPS DG 200 was used to record the speed data of 50 trips at Batu Pahat to Ayer Hitam. Descriptive and inferential statistics (paired t-test) were used to determine whether or not a driver reduced their speed when approaching an accident-prone area. The results indicate that the warning sign is significant because drivers reduce their speed after passing a warning signboard.
