Analysis on process of temporal and spatial evolution of urban built-up area expansion in the Yellow River Basin

Abstract: Urban spatial expansion is known as an important indicator of urbanization. In order to provide a reference for urban spatial expansion in the future high-quality development strategy of the Yellow River Basin (YB) cities in China, it is necessary to identify and calculate urban spatial expansion patterns. For this reason, we provide a "Spatiotemporal pattern-Center of gravity migrationt-Expansion pattern" solution to identify and calculate urban spatial expansion patterns in the YB. More specifically, 78 pref… Show more

“…purposes that may lead to potential expansion. This expansion requires careful consideration of various factors, including the influence of urban heat islands on the environment, the introduction of environmental indices based on remote sensing data, and spatial patterns (Shi et al, 2011;Fan et al, 2022). In addition, it is crucial to consider accessibility factors, such as distance to major roads and city centres (Cheng et al, 2022).…”

“…Therefore, policymaking and planning must be undertaken separately for different regions. This is reflected in the government's formulation of different regional development strategies, such as the Yangtze River Economic Belt [47][48][49], the Yellow River Basin Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development Strategy [50], and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Integration Strategy [51]. Similarly, research should also consider these spatial differences and regional development strategies and use geographic analysis to identify the differences and provide suggestions for adapting to local conditions.…”

“…The area of agricultural land has been significantly reduced, and the grassland ecosystem has been significantly degraded. The continuous increase in urban construction land area persists [51][52][53]. Therefore, in order to solve complex land use problems, the impact of urbanization alterations on landscape patterns is analyzed.…”
