Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) applied to flood susceptibility in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil

Abstract: The changes in environmental factors in a hydrographic basin, mainly in the urban environment, enable different scenarios than the change of parameters in climatic, physical, political, and socioeconomic factors. Those changes may have immediate effects on indigenous populations, often making them vulnerable to the risk of flooding. This article evaluates the vulnerability to flooding in the municipality of São José dos Campos, State of São Paulo, Brazil using multicriteria analysis and geoprocessing technique… Show more

“…Network theory is an interdisciplinary area that involves the mathematical formalism of graph theory and analyzes based on statistical tools (Silva, 2016). It emerged almost twenty years ago with the need for characterizing and extracting relevant information from interacting complex systems, such as the internet, the biological networks of the cell, and social networks (Bianconi, 2015).…”

“…The resulting network connects technological competencies in terms of productive capacity. Based on the theory that the space of technological competences highlights the ways in which competences are more easily aggregated, Silva (2016) proposed a method to identify new technological competences to be developed by Science and Technology Institutions. Knowing of these network theory applications, we have synthesized our literature findings in Table 1, to present the most similar studies in comparison to the present work.…”

“…Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is one of the most widely applied MCDM methods, and it is the most preferred technique in natural hazards assessment and flood modeling studies (Mallick et al, 2018). da Silva et al (2020) produced a map to detect flood susceptible areas with the joint application of geoprocessing techniques and multi-criteria analysis AHP. The authors of the study asserted that this mapping includes information about the area's critical points, making it possible to reduce uncertainties related to public interest policies such as housing plans.…”
