A microscopic approach was used to analyse the investigation of the elastic scattering of protons on 4,6,8 He at energies up to 200 MeV/N. The microscopic single folding (SF) and São-Paulo (SP) potentials were used to generate the real part of the optical model potential, and the Woods-Saxon form was used to phenomenologically compute the imaginary part. Three distinct nuclear densities (GG, GO, and G2S) of 4,6,8 He and Gaussian form effective NN interactions were used to determine the SF potential. A renormalization factor 𝑁𝑅 of the folded real potential as well as the imaginary and spin-orbit potentials were among the free parameters used in the investigation, which was carried out using the FRESCO code. In addition, the overall reaction cross-sections 𝜎𝑅 in the three densities (GG, GO, and G2S) and the related real and imaginary volume integrals of interacting nucleon pairs were examined. The differential and reaction cross-section values that were obtained were in fair accord with the experimental data.

A relativistic formulation of reaction theory for nuclei with a dynamics given by a unitary representation of the Poincaré group is developed. Relativistic dynamics is introduced by starting from a relativistic theory of free particles to which rotationally invariant interactions are added to the invariant mass operator. Poincaré invariance is realized by requiring that simultaneous eigenstates of the mass and spin transform as irreducible representations of the Poincaré group. A relativistic formulation of scattering theory is presented and approximations emphasizing dominant degrees of freedom that preserve unitarity, exact Poincaré invariance and exchange symmetry are discussed. A Poincaré invariant formulation of a (d,p) reaction as a three-body problem is given as an explicit example.

Small nuclei (A<16) test the limits of optical potential theory, most recently there has been difficulty matching the helium isotopes' analyzing powers at 71 MeV per nucleon. We provide a phenomenological optical potential that has been fit to a variety of experimental proton-nucleus and neutron-nucleus scattering data between A=4 and A=13 with a projectile energy between 65 and 75 MeV; the motivation being the helium isotopes. The resulting potential is dependent only on projectile isospin, neutron, and proton numbers. It fits the analyzing power of 6 He satisfactorily only by including a nontraditional negative surface depth and a spin-orbit force which is significant at a distance larger than traditional models. We offer physical interpretations of our non-traditional results, suggest directions for microscopic calculations, and proffer calculations for future experiments.
