This study presents a comparative analysis of the housing indicators used by the singlefamilyhousing rating systems (SHRSs), in which the residential urban environment (RUE)influences buildings’ certification scores, emphasizing the relationships of six systems developedby middle‐income countries (MICs)—BEST, CASA, GBI, BERDE, Green Homes, and LOTUS—andthe two most‐recognized rating systems, BREEAM and LEED. The aim is to provide new housingindicators that are capable of bringing the concept of sustainability into the cities of MICs. Theresults reveal that the percentage of influence that single‐family housing (SFH) can achieve in themetric established by each system is relatively low. However, considering all of the identifiedindicators, this influence could increase to 53.16% of the total score in multi‐criteria evaluations.Furthermore, a significant lack of indicators for mandatory criteria evaluations was found, withCASA being the only system that considers their inclusion. This paper identifies 37 indicators formulti‐criteria assessments and two for mandatory‐criteria assessments, providing new perspectiveson several topics. Furthermore, the methodology established to obtain the indicators could be usefulfor other researchers in the identification of new sustainable indicators.

The scope of this work covers a proposal for the implementation of sustainable, low-cost, environmentally friendly, and affordable housing for low-income people. This paper aims to address the current housing issues, namely that many people lack decent housing and that the built houses are usually of a poorly sustainable nature. The work consists of three main parts: an evaluation of housing sustainability, measurement of parameters related to their internal comfort and a simulation of thermal enclosure with the COMSOL Multiphysics ® software. An important objective is to propose a sustainability assessment format, which, besides being explained in detail, is presented in a percentage scale for ease of understanding. This work seeks a methodology for evaluating the level or degree of sustainability for the construction and inhabitation stages of housing. Using a prototype constructed with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, temperature and humidity were measured. There was a contrasting behavior of these two parameters, which tended towards an inverse behavior, except on cloudy or rainy days. The roof of the prototype contained some waste materials that provided thermal insulation: galvanized steel, polyethylene bags for upcycling as waterproofing, PET bottles, soil and endemic plants (green roof). The results obtained in the simulation are in accordance with the real internal behavior of the prototype.

Combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions are among the European Union’s priorities today. Direct implementation of these priorities is sustainable buildings. This paper analyzes the energy supply of a health resort building with renewable energy sources in the context of the “BREEAM In-Use” sustainability assessment system. The criteria for the “BREEAM In-Use” scoring system are grouped according to the 3E criteria and recommendations are made for the weights of the 3E assessment system criteria. In accordance with the criteria grouping methodology in the article, in the context of 3E criteria, the maximum weight should reach the energy indicator (about 50%), the second most important one is the ecological criterion, and about 16% should only meet the economic criterion.
