Anatomic and mechanical considerations in restoring volume of the face with use of hyaluronic acid fillers with a novel layered technique

Abstract: Context:Facial fillers have revolutionized the field of cosmetic facial rejuvenation as it has become the prime sought – after rejuvenation procedure offering youthful, 3-dimensional look with minimal invasiveness. Fillers are expensive and need to be redone periodically hence a sound understanding of structural basis on which they are laid is important in reducing the quantity of filler required in each sitting as well as increasing the longevity of results.Aim:The aim of the following study is to analyse a n… Show more

“…First, it is believed that the deposition of the filler should look very naturally distributed and smooth in appearance. This belief contrasts with the very common approach of injecting in special points that act as lifting points or “pillars of a tent,” as described in some works,[ 25 ] or wrinkle filling of the skin. [ 26 ] If we assume that fillers should induce new collagen as well as restore the volume loss of the face, whatever method used must distribute the filler homogenously all over the face.…”

“…A holistic approach for full face rejuvenation requires multiple syringes of filler that turns out to be extremely expensive. These need to be repeated periodically adding to the cost of the treatment 1 . With the increase in demand of cosmetic enhancements using dermal fillers, techniques should be given importance that use minimal amount of filler to provide maximum results.…”
