Anion exchange membranes based on poly (styrene‐b‐(ethylene‐co‐butylene)‐b‐styrene) grafted poly (2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide)

Abstract: Poly (styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene) (SEBS) has been widely studied in the field of anion exchange membranes (AEMs) due to its superior flexibility and chemical stability, but the poor dimensional stability of functionalized SEBS restricts its further application. Thus, we adopt an effective strategy to reinforce AEMs based on SEBS via grafting poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) using Williamson ether synthesis reaction. With

“…In addition, the alkali stability of the SEBS-C6-MDA-TPIP x membranes was compared with that of other SEBS-based AEMs, ,,,,, and the results are shown in Table . Based on similar OH – conductivity (σ), Ts, and Eb, the alkali resistance of the SEBS-C6-MDA-TPIP x membrane is superior to that of most SEBS-based AEMs.…”

“…The cation groups include quaternary ammonium (QA), benzyl trimethylammonium (BTMA), imidazolium, phosphonium, piperidinium(pip), quaternary piperidinium (Qpip), pyridinium, and metal-based cations, etc. [61][62][63][64] The polymer backbones include Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), [65] polyethylene (PE), [66] poly(norbornene) (GT), [67] polystyrene (SEBS), [68] polysulfones (PS), [69] polyethersulfone (PES), [70] poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK), [71] poly(terphenyl) (PTP), [72] poly(benzimidazoles) (PBI), [73] poly(fluorenes) (FLN), [74] ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), [75] and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), [76] crown ether, [77] as shown in Figure 5(a). The membrane conducts anions based on interactions between the cation functional groups and the negatively charged anions.…”
