Anionic Heptadecanuclear Silver(I) Cluster Constructed from in Situ Generated 2-Mercaptobenzoic Acid and a Sulfide Anion

Abstract: A novel anionic heptadecanuclear silver(I) cluster, (NH(4))(17)[(μ(6)-S)@Ag(17)(mba)(16)]·22H(2)O (1; H(2)mba = 2-mercaptobenzoic acid), was obtained by the reaction of equivalent molar silver oxide and 2,2'-dithiodibenzoic acid (H(2)dtba) under ultrasonic conditions at 50 °C. Complex 1 is a discrete cluster comprised of unexpected mba ligands on the shell and a μ(6)-S(2-) ion in the core, suggesting the occurrence of in situ S-S and S-C(sp(2)) bond cleavages of the H(2)dtba ligand. This novel cluster displays… Show more

“…4 We tried to investigate this point by using bafilomycin, a potent inhibitor of lysosome acidification. 16 In fact, in the presence of bafilomycin IL-4 + EVs induced a stronger effect, suggesting that lysosomes destroy a significant portion of the EVs' cargo. Since it has been already described that EVs' content may undergo endosomal escape, 9 we cannot exclude that IL-4 + EVs, once entered into the cytosol, also undergo endosomal escape.…”

“…12 We have also shown, in both murine and primate EAE models, that CNS delivery of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-4 (IL-4) through gene therapy is extremely efficient in treating ongoing neuroinflammation. 13,14 Here we report that EVs of microglial origin expressing the endogenous "eat me" signal Lactadherin (Mfg-e8), injected in the cisterna magna during EAE, are targeted to CNS phagocytes 15,16 and can deliver IL-4 and Cre-recombinase. We describe their ability to influence recipient cells' phenotype in vitro and in vivo and to modulate ongoing EAE.…”

“…The construction of Ag I coordination compounds has become a fruitful field because of their fascinating and diverse structures, including discrete clusters (Anson et al, 2008;Jia & Wang, 2009;Wu et al, 2010;Sun et al, 2011) and infinite coordination polymers (Sun et al, 2010;Mak et al, 2007;Khlobystov et al, 2001;Young & Hanton 2008). Among the Ag I coordination architectures, subgroups incorporating Ag I halides as inorganic functional modules have attracted particular attention because of their rich structural motifs and outstanding photophysical properties (Cheng et al, 2004).…”

“…The search for new coordination polymers (CPs) remains at the forefront of synthetic materials science, as their networks continue to be of interest for many potential applications such as luminescence, gas adsorption, catalysis, magnetism, molecular recognition etc. (Chen et al, 2010;Liu et al, 2010;Kong et al, 2008;Tao et al, 2012;Li et al, 2010;Sun, Liu et al, 2011). One of the main synthetic strategies for CPs is based on the diversity of polynuclear metallic units known as secondary building units (SBUs), as well as predesigned organic spacers (Zhao et al, 2011).…”
