Anomalous Arterial Supply to Normal Basal Segment of the Right Lower Lobe: Endovascular Treatment with the Amplatzer Vascular Plug

Abstract: Pulmonary systemic arterialization to normal basal lung without sequestration is a rare congenital anomaly. In this rare abnormality, arterialization of the left lower lobe is the most common type. In general, surgical treatments have been performed. Recently, for reducing the complications and risks of surgery, embolization is mainly attempted by using coils. We report a case of 22-year-old male patient with a 10 mm anomalous arterial supply to his normal lung, which is being successfully treated by transcath… Show more

“…Although most patients with ASANL are asymptomatic, the presenting symptoms are cardiac murmur in childhood, and recurrent hemoptysis, dyspnea on exertion, and congestive heart failure in adults (1). Diagnosis is relatively easy with chest computed tomography (CT) (1,2).…”

“…Although most patients with ASANL are asymptomatic, the presenting symptoms are cardiac murmur in childhood, and recurrent hemoptysis, dyspnea on exertion, and congestive heart failure in adults (1). Diagnosis is relatively easy with chest computed tomography (CT) (1,2). However, treatment options vary, including surgical resection of the involved lung and surgical ligation of the aberrant artery, and endovascular treatment has been recently introduced (3).…”

“…[4] Angiographic embolization has been proposed as a successful alternative to surgery. [5] Thus far, however, investigations comparing the results of embolization with those of surgical resection are lacking. [6][7][8] Angio- graphic embolization has the advantage of providing means for effective and immediate control of bleeding in massive hemoptysis.…”

“…[1][2][3][4] It can be considered a part of the broad spectrum of pulmonary sequestration and classified as Pryce type I sequestration. [1][2][3][4][5] However, the involved lung segments have a normal bronchial distribution, which could be distinguished from intralobar pulmonary sequestration. It is also important to differentiate aPADAO from other mimickers.…”

“…Careful interpretation of chest computed tomography angiograph is important in the differential diagnosis and making a correct diagnosis. 1,5 Herein, we present two cases of anomalous systemic arterial supply to the pulmonary region, namely aPADAO and intralobar pulmonary sequestration, which were both successfully treated by transarterial embolisation using the Amplatzer Vascular Plug.…”
