Antenatal Milk Expression as a Lactation Support Intervention for Parents of Infants With Severe Birth Defects

Abstract: Background: A diet high in parent's own milk (parental milk) is a lifesaving intervention for critically ill infants. Lactating parents whose infants are born with birth defects that require surgical repair (surgical infants) shortly after birth often struggle to initiate and maintain a milk supply that meets their infant's nutritional needs.
