“…This is important because the consumer is directly at risk when resistant pathogenic microorganisms are present in the food chain. According to WHO data, MDR bacteria cause over 700,000 deaths annually worldwide, especially among immunocompromised consumer groups [50]. “…Kumar et al stated that most antimicrobial drugs’ activity decreased with aging, necessitating a change in empirical antibiotic therapy based on the patient’s age [ 21 ]. Yvonne reported that antibiotic resistance is common and affects the elderly, and that age-related anatomical and physiological changes, as well as the use of a urine catheter, nasogastric and percutaneous feeding tubes, and intravenous catheters predispose elderly patients to bacterial colonization and infections [ 22 ].…”

“…Suggesting a less effect of garenoxacin to inhibit the gyrase function, thus, it may not suitable as second line regimen in the Dominican Republic. The increasing drug resistance in the older age might be related to the improper antibiotic usage and also the spreading of resistant strain in their environment such as nursing home, which might be a reservoir for multidrug-resistance strain [32].…”
