Anticancer activity of CopA3 dimer peptide in human gastric cancer cells

Abstract: CopA3 is a homodimeric α-helical peptide derived from coprisin which is a defensin-like antimicrobial peptide that was identified from the dung beetle, Copris tripartitus. CopA3 has been reported to have anticancer activity against leukemia cancer cells. In the present study, we investigated the anticancer activity of CopA3 in human gastric cancer cells. CopA3 reduced cell viability and it was cytotoxic to gastric cancer cells in the MTS and LDH release assay, respectively. CopA3 was shown to induce necrotic c… Show more

“…AMPs isolated from insects, including melittin, cecropin related peptides and magainins have been shown to exhibit antitumoral activity for cells derived from mammalian tumors (Lee et al, 2015b; Su et al, 2015). In the present study, HI-3 at the concentration of 40-160 μg/ml also exhibited the proliferation inhibition of CNE2 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner.…”

“…After 48 hr of treatment, cell injury in neuron cultures was quantitatively assessed by measuring the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity released into the bathing medium from damaged cells, using a Cytotox 96 assay kit (Promega), according to the manufacturer’s guidelines (31) .…”

“…This in turn increases the membrane negative charge and transmembrane potential ( Iwasaki et al, 2009 ; Teixeira et al, 2012 ). Cancer cells also express other biomolecules which can be targeted, such as chaperone proteins HSP90 and GRP78, sialic acid ( Liu et al, 2018 ), heparin sulfate ( Lee et al, 2015 ) and O -glycosylated mucines ( Teixeira et al, 2012 ). Below, such cases will be examined.…”
