Anticancer activity of Sasa borealis leaf extract-mediated gold nanoparticles

Abstract: Advancements in metal nanoparticle synthesis using plant extracts and their anticancer activity have received significant attention in recent years. The green approach for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using leaf extract of Sasa borealis is reported in this study. Synthesis of AuNPs was performed at 50 °C, and nanoparticle formation was observed after 20 min incubation. AuNPs formation was confirmed by the UV-visible spectrum peak at 542 nm. The synthesized AuNPs were oval, spherical with sizes a… Show more

“…We also observed peaks for CC in the spectra which may be due to the presence of flavonoids in the plant (Patil et al, 2018). Phenolic compounds possess antioxidant activity, act as protective agents against cancer and heart diseases, also neutralize the free radicals, and prevent them from causing cellular damage (Patil et al, 2018). In addition, the broad peak at 3250 cm −1 –3500 cm −1 in the plant (Fig.…”

“…The cytotoxic mechanism can be due to the generation of free radicals (ROS) by the green synthesized AuNPs (Khalil et al, 2018, Fu et al, 2014). Earlier reports of green synthesis of AuNPs from Sasa borealis (Patil et al, 2018), Rhuschinensis (Patil et al, 2016), Illicum versus (Sathishkumar et al, 2015) etc. providing evidence on cytotoxic effects on liver, gastric, cervical and bone cancer cells (Alkilany and Murphy, 2010).…”

“…The anti-carcinogenic effect of phytoconstiuent-mediated AuNPs creates a center of attention on growing interest in AuNPs synthesis, which are being well thought-out as novel agents. In addition, AuNPs act as nanocarriers in the targeted system of drug delivery [29]. In this report, we elucidated the therapeutic potential anti-carcinogenic effect of AuNPs on HCT-116 cancer cells and 3T3 cells.…”

“…After incubation, dye was decanted from each well and cells were washed with PBS (1-2 ml) twice. Observations were made under a green fluorescence microscope after adding PBS [30,31]. For quantitative estimation of effects of increasing concentration of MEUP on nuclear morphology, numbers of apoptotic cells/100 cells were measured [32,33].…”
