Anticancer L-Asparaginase and Phytoactive Compounds From Plant Solanum nigrum Against MDR (Methicillindrug resistant) Staphylococcus aureus and Fungal Isolates

Abstract: L-asparaginase is used in chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia and other cancers. L-asparaginase derived from bacterial source triggers immune responses. The current study investigates Solanum nigrum as a novel and latent source of L-asparaginase to minimize immunological reactions. The antitumor activity of SN methanol extract was determined using the potato disc assay. InterPro Chimera and InterPro were used to predict the amino acid sequence of L-asparaginase and its anticancer activity. Purificati… Show more

“…Solanum nigrum ( S. nigrum ) belongs to the Solanaceae family, along with eggplant, tomato, and potato (Edmonds & Chweya, 1997). It is a valuable leafy vegetable rich in protein and vitamins and is an essential medicinal plant applied to various cancers, neuromuscular disorders, and post‐covid complications (Aisha et al, 2022; Chen et al, 2022; Sharma et al, 2023; Srinivasan & Smolke, 2020). Furthermore, S. nigrum var.…”

“…Within the specific context of this article, CADD has been used, e.g., to evaluate medicinal plant-derived active compounds that could be used as therapeutic alternatives for MRSA infection [17][18][19][20]. The study of receptor-ligand interactions in the framework of molecular docking has drawn attention to the importance of probing the efficiency of these plant-derived antimicrobial agents [17,18] and testing antimicrobial activity using screened lead compounds, focusing on the role of computational screening methods [20][21][22][23] in tackling the problem. However, a major strategy still pursued in the field is that of modifying already approved antibiotics [24].…”
