Antimicrobial Properties of Methanol Extract of Dacryodes edulis Seed and Determination of Phytochemical Composition Using FTIR and GCMS

Abstract: Local medicine in some African countries has utilized the plant parts of Dacryodes edulis to treat various ailments such as wounds, skin diseases, dysentery, and fever. Some of these diseases are caused by pathogenic bacteria. To validate the tradomedical applications of D. edulis, an investigation of the phytochemical, antimicrobial properties of the methanol extract of the seed was conducted, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis was also car… Show more

“…Methanolic extract of D. edulis had the highest activity against microorganisms tested. This result corroborates with investigations made by [26,27] using methanol as solvents for the extraction.A previous study has indicated greatpotential for the plant in the battle againstmalaria and other diseases [12,28].…”

“…Glycosteroids form an interesting family of biomolecules widely encountered in Nature, comprising saponins [1][2][3][4][5] and steroid glycosides [6,7], and exhibiting a wide range of biological properties. New types of glycosteroids are continuously discovered [8][9][10][11][12][13] in various vegetals and organisms, and the spectrum of biological properties and relevant therapeutic interest is immense.…”
