Ximenia americana is one of the most valuable wild edible plants in the world. In different countries, it is utilized as food, medicine, an essential oil source, and the industrial component to other products. In Ethiopia, it was one of the most known and very important plants for a long period of time. It was utilized as food, a medicinal plant, and animal feed. It was also one of the most economically important and culturally valuable plants. But nowadays, it is not adequately available in the country due to deforestation problem in the years. In addition, its economic importance, current status, and medicinal roles are not well documented and understood. As for research studies, it is concluded that unless a collective effort is taken, the existence of this plant is under severe threat and needs to have some measures. This review article is aimed at addressing the abovelined topics in detail and to pinpoint and explain the importance and status of Ximenia americana.

Acaricide effect of native and exotic plants from the Brazilian savanna on Rhipicephalus microplus-resistant ticks with notes on the acaricide resistance of tick populations collected in southeast Brazil

Rhipicephalus microplus is among the most important ectoparasites for livestock. The use of chemical acaricides has raised some concerns due to the selection of tick populations that are resistant to acaricides and environmental contamination. Therefore, plant extracts have been used as alternatives for the treatment of animals infested with ticks. In this study, R. microplus populations from seven different dairy farms were collected and assessed for their resistance to acaricides. Larvae of the most resistant population was used in assays to evaluate the acaricide effect of extracts from leaves or the latex of eight plant species commonly found in Brazilian dairy farms. The most active extracts were also tested against fully engorged females. Among seven tick populations, five and three showed resistance level ≥ III for cypermethrin or trichlorfon, respectively. The most resistant population was used in mortality assays with the plants Piptadenia viridiflora, Annona crassiflora, Caryocar brasiliense, Ximenia americana, Schinopsis brasilienses, Mangifera indica, Tithonia diversifolia, and Calotropis procera. C. procera was the most effective against larvae with mortalities of 62.9 and 44.9% at 100 mg/mL with the latex and aqueous extract, respectively. The ethanolic extracts of C. brasiliense, S. brasilienses, and X. americana also had acaricide effects higher or similar to cypermethrin. When fully engorged females were tested, the aqueous extract of C. procera showed a 96.8% efficiency. Four of the plants tested showed promising results, and further studies should be carried out for the development of tools to control R. microplus in cattle.

Therapeutic plants are extensively increased in scenery with their efficient therapeutic properties. India has the greater natural ecosystem from past two decades, near has been a marvelous augment in the applications of natural medicines; though there is still a noteworthy deficiency in the research of medicinal plants and it has the great resources of medicinal plants which are noteworthy to human beings in many ways. The medicinal plants such as Bombax ceiba, Aloe vera and Ximenia Americana are well known to cure several diseases therefore used in different Ayurvedic preparation somehow they are lagging behind in the list of medicinal plants for their applications in drug preparations. These plants has great ethnopharmaceutical and pharmacological properties with therapeutic applications therefore present review gives different aspects of Bombax ceiba, Aloe vera and Ximenia americana and may help to create awareness in society.
