Antiproliferative Effect and the Isolated Compounds ofPouzolzia indica

Abstract: Previous report showed the high potent antiproliferative effect of the methanolic part extracted from the aerial parts of Pouzolzia indica on NB4 and HT93A acute leukemic cell lines with the IC50 values of 28.5 and 49.8 μg/mL, respectively. The bioassay-guided fractionation of the methanolic part gave 5 fractions, that is, FFI–FFV. FFII, FFIII, and FFIV inhibited the above leukemic cell lines with the IC50 values of 15.1 (FFII), 14.4 (FFIII), 32.1 (FFIV), and 31.0 (FFII), 9.7 (FFIII), 10.5 (FFIV) μg/mL, respec… Show more

“…F3 (38 g, hexane-EtOAc, 3:7; 1L and elute column with methanol; 1L) appeared as brown gum, and recrystallized with ethyl acetate appeared as yellow prism gave 4 (20mg) the second filtrate obtained yellow gum which investigated in the future. Compounds 1 2 3 and 4 were identified, as 1(friediline), 2(stigmaterol), 3(benzophenone), 4(macluraxanthone) and acetylation of 4 by UV, IR, 1 H-13 C-NMR and mass spectrometer, and were compared with literature (Sangsuwon, 2013).…”

“…Lung cancer is common cause of cancer-related death in men and women, is responsible for 1.8 million deaths worldwide annually, as reported in year 2012 (WHO Cancer, 2012). The effort of discovery and development the plant drugs for A 549 lungs cancers in natural compounds, such as Linoleic, flavonoids, quercetin, genistein, sesquiterpene, diterpenes, lactones, butenolides and lignin (Sangsuwon, 2013). The method of MTT assay is used for counting the number of viable tumor cells in proliferation by purple formazan of tetrazolium salt (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, a tetrazole) (Hynes, 1992).…”

“…Some compounds may act on those pathways to induce apoptosis or inhibit the biochemical pathways leading either to cell death or to survival. P. indica, a medicinal plant belongs to Urticaceae family (Sangsuwon et al 2013). This plants species are wildly distributed throughout India and Bangladesh.…”
