Antirheumatic therapy is not associated with changes in circulating N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide levels in patients with autoimmune arthritis

Abstract: Background Patients with autoimmune arthritis (AA) are at increased risk for impaired cardiac function and heart failure. This may be partly due to the effect of inflammation in heart function. The impact of antirheumatic drugs on cardiac dysfunction in AA remains controversial. Therefore, we aimed to examine effects of antirheumatic treatment on serum N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in AA patients and its relationship to inflammatory markers. Methods We examined 115 patients with AA (64… Show more

“…Notably, we did not observe correlation between circulating levels of NT-proBNP and those of hsTnT. In our recently published study [12], we found a positive correlation between NT-proBNP and ESR and CRP, but similarly to hsTnT, antirheumatic treatment was not related to reduction in NT-proBNP levels during the 6-month follow-up study. A standard 12-lead ECG investigations were also performed in 91 patients (70.1% of the study population).…”

“…This study is a part of PSARA-the Norwegian prospective observational Psoriatic arthritis (PsA), Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) study, described earlier [12,13]. We enrolled 115 patients with active IA starting with either methotrexate (MTX) monotherapy or tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) with or without MTX co-medication (TNFi ±MTX).…”

“…Nguyen и соавт. [17] у 64 пациентов с изолированным РА не выявлено какой-либо динамики на фоне лечения метотрексатом. Стоит заметить, что каких-либо статистически значимых различий в симптоматике ХСН между обследуемыми группами нами не выявлено.…”
