Antiviral Effect of Visible Light-Sensitive CuxO/TiO2 Photocatalyst

Abstract: Photocatalysis is an effective technology for preventing the spread of pandemic-scale viruses. This review paper presents an overview of the recent progress in the development of an efficient visible light-sensitive photocatalyst, i.e., a copper oxide nanoclusters grafted titanium dioxide (CuxO/TiO2). The antiviral CuxO/TiO2 photocatalyst is functionalised by a different mechanism in addition to the photocatalytic oxidation process. The CuxO nanocluster consists of the valence states of Cu(I) and Cu(II); herei… Show more

“…X-ray diffraction patterns of the as-deposited thin films are shown in Figure 3 . For the binary Ti-Cu thin films, only a broad diffraction hump in the [ 38 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 ] 2 -range is observed without any pronounced Bragg’s diffraction peaks which represent amorphous glassy structure with Ti-Cu ratio nearly equal to one. Although the Ti-Cu alloys form multiple intermetallic compounds, a solid solution forms for alloys with the Ti 48 Cu 52 composition [ 32 ].…”

“…In recent years, copper-based systems have also been proposed for the production of surface antiviral coatings with virucidal properties, especially in view of the recent COVID-19 pandemic [ 41 , 42 ]. Very recent examples include [ 42 , 43 ] copper-coated touch surface fabricated by cold-spray technology, as well as antiviral Cu x O/TiO 2 photo catalyst thin films with interesting photo-activated anti-viral properties.…”

“…The device transmits a signal after magnetic nanoparticles bind to RNA and hence make faster and effective results available to the users. Recent researches also report on the use of graphene-based nanomaterials and bio-sensors which also bind to the coronavirus and help in identifying electrical signals from the samples and in the detection of the virus within a minute [15] , [17] , [18] .…”
