Application of 3D WebGIS and real-time technique in earthquake information publishing and visualization

Abstract: In hazard management, earthquake researchers have utilized GIS to ease the process of managing disasters. Researchers use WebGIS to assess hazards and seismic risk. Although they can provide a visual analysis platform based on GIS technology, they lack a general description in the extensibility of WebGIS for processing dynamic data, especially real-time data. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for real-time 3D visual earthquake information publishing model based on WebGIS and digital globe to improve t… Show more

“…In the 3D data domain, the integration of 3D visualisation technologies is exemplified by the introduction of EqMap3D [76] and the presentation of a Web-GIS system for landslide disaster response with real-time 3D visualisation using vue.js, Cesium API, and WebGL technology [69].…”

“…Leveraging animated time series simulation data [64,73] enables users to grasp the evolving dynamics of hazards such as floods [82], empowering them to make timely and informed decisions. Moreover, integrating 3D visualisation techniques immerses users in lifelike representations of geological phenomena, facilitating more profound understanding and enhancing situational awareness [27,65,76,79,83]. Similarly, effective visualisation by creating 3D models for non-expert consultation enhances public engagement and comprehension [67].…”

“…When the 3D geovisualization platforms for disaster management purposes in the literature are considered; the EqMap3D system developed by Li et al (2015) is a 3D earthquake information sharing platform in real-time based on NASA WorldWind. Chen et al ( 2016) developed a 2D/3D WebGIS platform for landslide hazard management.…”

“…Such a visualization provides an intuitive decision analysis platform for disaster-related personnel, which is of great significance for mitigating the potential adverse effects caused by disasters. Much work has been conducted in this field, such as personal computer (PC)-based 3D visualizations of flood disaster scenes [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11], earthquake disaster scenes [12][13][14][15][16], and geological disaster scenes [17][18][19]; immersive experiences of disasters, based on PC virtual reality (VR) systems [20][21][22][23][24][25]; and 3D disaster simulation and visualization analyses, based on diverse computing systems (such as desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones) [26].…”
