Application of Conformance Control Techniques in Tengiz Field

Abstract: Sour Gas Injection project has been successfully implemented in Tengiz field, achieving long term pressure maintenance in the platform area by re-injecting gas with high H2S concentration and improving oil recovery. From the recent gas saturation campaign, sweep efficiency in injection pattern has varied from 10 to 70%, with the highest sweep, as well as most of gas breakthroughs observed in Bashkirian interval. This represents effective and uniform piston like miscible displacement across whole Bashkirian tha… Show more

“…Generally, it is preferred to inject chemical fluids into the reservoir through a producer well, although an injector well route may also be utilized if specifically desired. Conformance treatment at a producer is considered favorable as a result of two reasons: need for tracers to identify the correct injector well profile and the possibility of high expenses and a longer time to yield a suitable response in the reservoir. , In some cases, the idea of cross flooding by altering injection well patterns may produce useful results for conformance control applications. MEs can impart a similar viscosity-driven push (to the displaced oil phase) compared to polymers, gels, and emulsions with better flow characteristics in porous media. However, ME formation generally occurs within in situ formations (pore spaces), although highly stable MEs can be directly injected as well.…”

“…Many oilfields have entered the stage of high water cut with the further development of oilfields. Chemical water shutoff, as a cost-effective technology, has become the main method for enhancing oil recovery in mature oilfields. As the water shutoff technologies developed, petroleum workers have developed different types of plugging agents, such as in situ polymer gels, preformed particle gels (PPGs), and so forth. In situ polymer gels were cross-linked polymer gels (CPGs) composed of polymers and cross-linkers.…”
