Application of Nanofluids in CO2 Absorption: A Review

Abstract: The continuous release of CO2 into the atmosphere as a major cause of increasing global warming has become a growing concern for the environment. Accordingly, CO2 absorption through an approach with maximum absorption efficiency and minimum energy consumption is of paramount importance. Thanks to the emergence of nanotechnology and its unique advantages in various fields, a new approach was introduced using suspended particles in a base liquid (suspension) to increase CO2 absorption. This review article addres… Show more

“…Therefore, in addition to water-based nanofluids, a large number of scholars have applied amine-based nanofluids to the CO 2 absorption process in recent years. ,, The number of amine molecules substituted by hydrogen atoms in other functional groups in the amine solutions is the criterion for classifying the amine solution. The first one is a primary amine solution including MEA; the second is a secondary amine solution including DEA; and the third is a tertiary amine solution including MDEA. , In addition to these, there were also sterically hindered amines including AMP. MEA solutions are often the solvent of choice for large-scale applications in power plants .…”

“…The second depends upon the heat transfer mechanism. 2 The effect of the adsorbent temperature for nanofluids with different concentrations of NPs on the CO 2 absorption performance is shown in Figure 10. The results show that increasing the adsorbent temperature increases the absorption efficiency for both base fluid and nanofluid.…”

“…Since the concept of nanofluid has been proposed, nanofluids have been practically applied in many fields such as mechanical processing, solar heat collection, fuel cells, wastewater treatment, and crude oil recovery. [21] However, they are still in the stage of laboratory research in terms of gas absorption and have no practical application. [22] Therefore, the simulation research on using nanofluids for absorbing acid gases [23][24][25] is very important.…”
