Application of Optimization Techniques for Searching Optimal Reservoir Rule Curves: A Review

Abstract: This paper reviews applications of optimization techniques connected with reservoir simulation models to search for optimal rule curves. The literature reporting the search for suitable reservoir rule curves is discussed and examined. The development of optimization techniques for searching processes are investigated by focusing on fitness function and constraints. There are five groups of optimization algorithms that have been applied to find the optimal reservoir rule curves: the trial and error technique wi… Show more

“…In August (x 8 , y 8 ), the water level rises further compared to July (x 7 , y 7 ), reaching its peak during the last rainy season in October (x 10 , y 10 ) and extending until the end of December (x 12 , y 12 ). This pattern aligns with the seasonal streamflow patterns observed in Thailand [2,48,73]. To incorporate the smoothing function constraints into the fitness function, the following procedure was employed in the reservoir simulation model to optimize the rule curves:…”

“…The Global Development Agenda considered management, job creation and support for tourists, the social sustainability that considered infrastructure development and local cultural conservation. It also addressed environmental sustainability considering the effects of human's actions resulting in wastes that were environmental pollution [2,3]. In 2017, Thailand set sustainable development goals of the 20 Year National Strategies and made the Disclaimer/Publisher's Note: The statements, opinions, and data contained in all publications are solely those of the individual author(s) and contributor(s) and not of MDPI and/or the editor(s).…”
