Application of response surface methodology (RSM) in condition<br>optimization for essential oil production from Citrus latifolia

Abstract: This research shows the dependence of distillation time and ratio of water/peel on amount of essential oil after distilling. Researching and optimizing the factors for essential oil production by laboratory-scale distillation and the yield was evaluated using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with Central Composite Face-Centered (CCF) model. The regression equation obtained was shown below: 2 2 1 2 1 2 y = 0.997-0.015x + 0.04x-0.107x-0.042x. There is the contrast between distillation time and ratio of wat… Show more

“…The total essential oil has obtained 100% desirability of objective proposed ( Figure 6). This result of our research has matched with the reports of other authors about optimization of essential oil yields for other genus ginger (zingiber) in the ginger family (zingiberaceae) [8,7,11,12]. …”

“…The R 2 is not considered as the main point to imply the accuracy of the model, because in addition to the variable, the model will increase the value of R 2 . As a result, adj-R 2 is more appropriate for evaluating the model if its value is greater than 90% (Tan et al 2012). If many insignificant terms had been included in the model, the adjusted R2 would be remarkably lower than the R 2 (Chan et al 2009).…”

“…Design of Experiment is a statistical tool approaching controllable variables (input) and responses variables (output) allowing detection of possible interaction in a well designated structured and effective experiment plan. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is suitable as it is an economical, robust and widely uses methods in optimization process of essential oil successfully (Tan et al, 2012;Rezzoug et al, 2005).…”
