“…This paradox becomes apparent in noting that in the Five-factor model, low scores on the anxiety factor are often a proxy for mental health(McCrae & Costa, 1999). A similar claim can be made for the MMPI(Holden, 2000).…”

“…Links with a number of other self-report measures relevant to the concept of psychopathy have yet to be evaluated with the new instrument: These include Blackburn and Fawcett's (1999) Antisocial Practices Questionnaire, the Socialization subscale of the California Personality Inventory (Gough & Bradley, 1996), Holden's (2000) Psychological Screening Index, and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (Davis, 1983)-a self-report measure of empathy. Studies involving both the SRP-II and the PCL-R have suggested that these personality scales do relate to psychopathy in both forensic and clinical samples (e.g., Hart, Forth, & Hare, 1991;Rutherford, Alterman, Cacciola, & McKay, 1997;Rutherford, Cacciola, Alterman, & McKay, 1996;Williams & Paulhus, 2004).…”

“…Raw scores are converted to t scores based on normative population data. While the HPSI quantifies relatively enduring psychopathology, it can also be used to measure individual change [32]. Invalidity of HPSI respondent profiles (e.g., exaggeration or hyperbole, fabrication, omission of items, and/or poor question comprehension) was identified using established cutoff scores.…”

“…For other participants, the PCL-R institutional file review and interview were conducted by M.A.K., trained in the administration of the instrument. In addition to obtaining completed PCL-R results, the self-report HPSI (Holden, 1991) was administered to inmates either individually or in small groups of less than 6 inmates.…”

“…To date, the psychometric strengths of the HPSI have been supported with samples drawn from various populations (Magruder, Holden, Stein, Sitarenios, & Sheldon, 2000). For example, all HPSI scales have had coefficient alpha reliabilities greater than .75 for offender (Holden, 2000; Reddick, 1998) and psychiatric offender (Holden & Grigoriadis, 1995) samples and 4-week test–retest reliabilities of at least .83 for university students. The HPSI’s item latent structure has matched closely with the inventory’s scoring key for psychiatric patient (congruence coefficients > .78; Holden, Mendonca, Mazmanian, & Reddon, 1992), offender (congruence coefficients > .90; Holden, 2000; Reddick, 1998), and psychiatric offender (congruence coefficients > .82; Holden & Grigoriadis, 1995) samples.…”
