Abstract:Abstract:We discuss the channel-capture approximation of slow neutron direct-capture theory. We show that this approximation gives a generally good representation of the neutron capture cross sections for several electric dipole transitions in a broad range of nuclides from A = 9 to A -136; these are mostly near-spherical nuclei. Despite this body of agreement, we examine the accuracy we can expect from the simple channel-capture theory. Comparison with calculations of the potentialcapture cross section from p… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
