“…Marshall et al (2020) leveraged the DOI framework to identify the most salient structural factors that could facilitate or inhibit the widespread promotion and adoption of direct-acting anti-viral therapies for hepatitis C virus. The researchers similarly recognized that individuals with specialized occupational expertise comprised the most innovative and in uential adopter and diffuser (i.e., promoter) of an innovation, nding that drug and alcohol specialists -rather than general practitioners -were most likely to aid the scaling up of anti-viral treatments (Marshall et al, 2020). In the malaria context, Steury (2013) utilized the DOI to develop an applied model to implement communityfocused malaria treatment invertions in Zambia.…”

“…This dissertation is a combination of three empirical papers that use this framework in three different case studies and across different fields: social movements, organizations, and health. Diffusion has established itself as a solid multidisciplinary theory over the years that is often used in sociology , economics (Adelowotan and Udofia 2021; Outcault, Sanguinetti, and Nelson 2022), public health (Green et al 2009;Marshall et al 2020), or communication (Johann and Bülow 2019;Kim 2015). Hence, this project seeks to demonstrate the versatility of the theory to explain social change.…”
