Applying the RE-AIM conceptual framework for the promotion of physical activity in low- and middle-income countries

Abstract: Objective:the RE-AIM framework has been widely used to evaluate internal and external validity of interventions aimed to promote physical activity, helping to provide comprehensive evaluation of the reach, efficacy, adoption, implementation and maintenance of research and programming. Despite this progress, the RE-AIM framework has not been used widely in Latin America. The purpose of this manuscript is to describe the RE-AIM framework, the process and materials developed for a one-day workshop in Guadalajara,… Show more

“…Generally, RE-AIM does seem to translate and be useful in the different countries and cultures in which use has been reported. Some international applications include low- and middle-income countries (25) including Australia (2630), the Netherlands (3134), and Brazil (35, 36). One interesting application was the use of RE-AIM to help plan and evaluate interventions to reduce the use of coal-fired indoor cook stoves in Africa (37).…”

“…The evidence-based rapid qualitative analysis methodology 28 , 29 used in our study represents a methodological innovation in knowledge translation in the ECD field. The deductive use of the RE-AIM dimensions—a widely known evidence-based program implementation evaluation framework– 14 , 63 for thematic analysis helped us to identify pragmatic recommendations for optimizing PCF scale-up. Furthermore, extensive interviews with PCF teams and families allowed us to reach thematic saturation.…”
