The results of a study of the number and enzymatic activity of microorganisms in the soils of the Zardob district (Azerbaijan), from the territory of the pesticide storage base, are presented. It was revealed that the soils of the base were polluted to a very strong extent, and the content of pesticides (including DDT) exceeded the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) by tens to hundreds of times. Microbiological studies of soil samples showed that, unlike pure soil, in all soil samples contaminated with pesticides, the number of microorganisms and enzymatic activity decreased, which indicated the negative impact of soil contamination with pesticides on the structure and activity of microbiocenosis and was an indicator of limited assimilation potential and low self-cleaning ability of these soils in relation to pollutants.

Active cultures of hydrocarbon-decomposing microorganisms from soils of various functional zones of Baku were screened. It was shown that 15 cultures of hydrocarbon-decomposing microorganisms isolated as a result of continuous screening belonged to the genera Rhodococcus, Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Mycobacterium, Actinomyces, Arthrobacter, Micrococcus and were able to use various hydrocarbons (crude oil, paraffin and aromatic hydrocarbons and petroleum products) as the only source of carbon and energy. According to the degree of decomposition, petroleum hydrocarbons were ranked in the series: a mixture of paraffins petroleum products aromatic hydrocarbons crude oil, while the most active strains of microorganisms were isolated from the soils of the industrial and transport zones of Baku, compared with the soils of the recreational zone. The isolated active strains can be considered promising for the creation of biological products to increase soil resistance to pollutants and activate the processes of self-purification of already contaminated soils.

The article is devoted to the study of biogenesity and self-purification capacity of gray meadow soils of the Siyazan district contaminated with oil hydrocarbons and the search for ways to optimize the environmental situation. The results of laboratory modeling of the intensification of self-purification processes by introducing various additives and biopreparation are presented. The results showed that the introduction of ameliorants into contaminated soil both separately and together in a model experiment contributed to a decrease in the content of oil hydrocarbons in the soil by 17-62% compared to the control and an increase in the total biogenesity of soils. These biotechnologies can be used in bioremediation of oil-contaminated soils, which will reduce the environmental load on the soil cover of industrially oriented territories.
