AR pen and hand gestures

Abstract: This paper explores the interaction possibilities when artists use their non-dominant hand, while drawing with a pen in their dominant hand. We propose a new interactive AR-based pen tool which can overlay virtual images onto a physical drawing in real time. This system allows artists to control the augmented images with gestures of a non-dominant hand while drawing. By interacting with the visually augmented contents using hand gestures and a pen bimanually, artists can draw pictures more creatively. We also … Show more

“…Studies [1,25] present an image-guided pen-based suggestive interface for sketching 3D wireframe models. Studies [12,14] support 2D/3D drawing practice and promote correction and improvement by comparing the user's imitation of a picture with the original.…”

“…Study [20] uses a method that involves cutting along a line projected on paper to support paper-cutting performance. Projector-Guided Painting [21], [22] decomposes the target painting into coarseto-fine layers. Users paint over the projection of each layer, following the guidance to orient individual brush strokes or paint all the strokes of a given color.…”

“…These methods rely on a face and set of sketch recognition algorithms to generate domain-speci c instructions and textual or on-canvas feedback. In a study [21], a projector displayed images onto paper and drew lines using the projected guide to prevent distortion and misalignment, providing production support using augmented reality. In another study [12], the projector appeared to support the expression technique of overlapping colors in oil paintings.…”
