This paper examines the key challenges to the reconstruction of residential development in urban areas. It aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the reconstruction processes of residential quarters in Yerevan and in international practices and to identify certain principles that are appropriate for the further development of the process in Yerevan. The paper presents the features of the reconstruction processes that took place in the sphere of a residential development of the city of Yerevan. The study has been conducted on the reconstruction processes of various nature and content of residential quarters in past decades in a number of cities around the world, focusing on the analysis of topics that remain unexplored in the practice of Yerevan city. A comparative analysis of the findings and conclusions made in the framework of this paper allows us to reveal the strengths and weaknesses in the research and design works for the reconstruction of residential quarters in Yerevan already developed, as well as to develop principles for the choice of study directions, analysis methods, systematization and classification objects, which can be applied to local and international research on the given topic and in the design processes.

Construction of atrium in the Tula Kremlin: history, background and opportunities

The possibility of partial renovation of the historical center of Tula – Tula Kremlin is discussed. The formation of atrium space in the North-Western part of the Kremlin is considered. This conversion recreates the lost historical integrity of the ancient ensemble and creates new possibilities of use of the historic center of the ancient Russian town. Initially, the urban space of the Tula Kremlin was limited by a wall, but with the lapse of time, the city went beyond that boundary. Initially, the Kremlin had all the fullness of urban functions, but the majority of these functions have been gradually lost, it evolved primarily in a large public center, and nowadays it has become an object of museum-tourist destination. The concept of "Kremlin" includes as a mandatory component outlined urban space, formation of which complies its own laws in the interaction of many different factors: system of spatial and visual relations, temples, city gates and towers. The reconstruction of historic integrity of ancient ensembles was begun within the framework of the Federal State Program, possible ways of its recovery are considered.

Introduction. The need for reconstruction of the central quarters of the city of Yerevan is essential due to the incompleteness of the master plan for perimetral development (1924) implementation. It led to numerous dilapidated buildings liable to implementation remained in the courtyards for decades and, over time, were supplemented by new constructions. He process was uncontrolled and caused the formation of a chaotic, uncomfortable, unsafe, and unaesthetic intra-quarter environment that requires urgent urban planning solutions. A similar example is a quarter adjacent to Vardanants, Charents, and Shahinyan streets. This work is devoted to the reconstruction problems of this quarter. The research objective is to summarize the results of the project proposal developed for the reconstruction of the quarter adjacent to Vardanants, Charents, and Shahinyan streets of Yerevan city. Materials and methods. The work was carried out on the base of the general scientific methods of theoretical research, systematization, analysis, synthesis, and generalization of the material. Results. The work consists of the following thematic divisions: the historical process of the development of the territory, research and analysis of the current state of the development, project proposal for the reconstruction. The process of the development of the territory during the XIX–XXIst centuries is summarized. The study of quarter current situation and the analysis carried out on its basis are presented. The problems arisen are identified. The developed proposal for reconstruction is presented. The spatial-planning and functional characteristics of the quarter, progress data indicators, and economic bases for the realization of the project are displayed. Conclusions. The article presents the problems that can be solved with the proposal application, socio-economic, and legal possibilities of the process implementation, the principles of economic calculations, emerging changes in the development indicators.
