Are Audience Preferences for Electronic Cinema Affected by Preferences in Indonesian Movie Choices?

This study aims to analyse and explain the urgency of communication ethics in the new media era (new media). This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a post -positivist approach, where researchers observe and identify the phenomenon of communication ethics in new media (new media) Instagram on the @lambe_turah account naturally. This research data was obtained from the Instagram account @lambe_turah as a source of primary data, as well as from a literature review as secondary data. This research data was analysed through data reduction process, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate, with technological developments that allow the spread of fast and broad news on social media platforms, the need to maintain integrity, honesty, and peace in communication becomes more urgent. Communication ethics plays a major role in guiding media actors to verify information carefully, avoid sensationalism, and reduce the risk of provocation to individuals or groups. In dealing with the complexity of new media, enforcement of integrity, honesty, and peace becomes a crucial foundation in ensuring public trust, promoting social harmony, and preventing unwanted conflict escalation. Although the dominance of sensational and provocative news in user interest, ethical principles remain relevant in ensuring that the message distributed is true, useful, and not detrimental. With an emphasis on the principles of communication ethics, we can use new media as a means to strengthen the values of truth, justice, and wisdom in society, as well as facilitate a deeper understanding of various groups.

Transformation in the digital era: optimising social media for news coverage

The development of communication technology also refers to the evolution of social media, which provides numerous benefits for its users. Journalists, in carrying out their work, have also undergone a transformation by optimising social media as an initial source of news. This research discusses the transformation of journalists in the digital era, focusing on optimising social media in covering news. The aim of this research is to analyse the use of social media by exploring the challenges and opportunities faced by journalists in utilising these platforms to obtain information, interact with audiences, and disseminate news swiftly and widely while adhering to the Journalistic Code of Ethics. This study is qualitative research employing a case study approach, with data collection methods involving in-depth interviews with journalists from various media outlets in Indonesia. The results of this research indicate, first, that the role of social media has evolved into a crucial element in modern journalistic practice. Social media, initially regarded as a social platform, has now become a primary source of information for journalists when commencing news coverage. The rapid dissemination of information via social media facilitates journalists' access to real-time data, the latest news, and public opinion. The Codes of Ethics serve as a guide to ensure that, despite information originating from social media, the verification process, objectivity, and balance of news remain paramount.

Media consumption behaviours and health impacts of video-on-demand services in Indonesia

Video-on-demand (VOD) services have transformed media consumption globally, with platforms such as Netflix and local providers like Vidio gaining popularity in Indonesia. This study explores the impact of VOD on user behaviours, demographic influences, and health implications in Indonesia, whereby rapid internet expansion drives its adoption. This study aimed to explore how VOD consumption affects daily habits as well as how binge-watching affects health. This research focuses on Indonesia’s unique context with a survey of 422 respondents to analyse VOD habits, and quantitative statistical methods were applied to assess behavioural patterns based on demographic variables. Findings reveal that younger users are the primary consumers of VOD, often engaging with media during work or study hours, resulting in sleep disruption and mental health concerns such as anxiety. Gender differences were notable, with female respondents reporting higher sleep disturbances. Binge-watching behaviour was strongly correlated with health impacts, emphasising the need for better viewing habits. The study concludes that while VOD has enhanced media access and diversity, it has also introduced health risks, particularly for younger audiences. These findings provide valuable insights for VOD platforms and policymakers aiming to promote balanced media consumption. Future research should examine broader demographic trends and long-term effects.
