Are People Ready to Entrust Their Safety to an Autonomous Ambulance as an Alternative and More Sustainable Transportation Mode?

Abstract: Progress in advanced vehicular technologies and computer science leads to driverless vehicles becoming a reality. The standard ambulances might be replaced by driverless ambulances operated by an autopilot that provides passengers with a secure regime. Therefore, the study’s aim was to collate two different countries regarding the consumers’ preparedness to travel on such autonomous ambulances. To obtain a more demonstrative result, a questionnaire survey was conducted in two countries (Hungary and Kazakhstan)… Show more

“…It can also reduce the number of patients taken to the hospital by providing the healthcare through telemedicine. Furthermore, autonomous ambulances have been introduced with advanced technologies in some countries for providing the rapid response and saving the paramedics from getting affected (Zarkeshev and Csiszár, 2019). Moreover, the disaster response unit needs to communicate with other EMS linked departments i.e., fire, police, insurance, etc., which requires strong communication and coordination for centralized control.…”

“…The immediate application of autonomous vehicles for incident management purposes can be in the form of ambulances and other emergency services, provided that public acceptance is achieved [52]. On the other hand, Tupper et al [53] compared the benefits of the ITS incident management system (traffic cameras) against savings from sustainable construction strategies: warm-mix asphalt, pavement recycling [54,55], reduction of fossil fuel reliance and using regionally-sourced materials [56,57].…”
