Artificial intelligence and robotics on the frontlines of the pandemic response: the regulatory models for technology adoption and the development of resilient organisations in smart cities

Abstract: Smart cities do not exist without robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). As the case of the COVID-19 pandemic shows, they can assist in combating the novel coronavirus and its effects, and preventing its spread. However, their deployment necessitate the most secure, safe, and efficient use. The purpose of this article is to address the regulatory framework for AI and robotics in the context of developing resilient organisations in smart cities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study provides regulatory ins… Show more

“…Throughout this crisis period, various applications of AI played a crucial role in diverse aspects such as pandemic response management, patient care enhancement, and innovative research initiatives. One of the key areas where AI can be utilized during pandemics is in the management of pandemic responses [95]. AI has proved instrumental in disease cluster identification, monitoring patients, determining mortality risk, disease diagnosis and management, contact tracing through geotagging, resource allocation, and data management.…”

“…Within the semiconductor industry, co-creation has been identified as an innovative way for new technology development, through its risk-sharing potential (Banerjee & Sharma, 2015). Technology development (such as institutional system AI solutions) has also been found to improve organizational resilience, by making firms more responsive and effective (Lauri et al, 2023). Despite these findings, little is known of the relationships that exist between the green dimensions of these variables (green value co-creation, green technology development, and organizational resilience).…”

“…There are concerns about privacy rights due to the use of surveillance technologies for tracking the virus's spread and enforcing quarantine measures [57]. It is crucial for governments to guarantee that their surveillance measures align with internationally recognized human rights standards and the absolute prohibition of torture and ill-treatment.…”
