“…Compared with other studies, our cadmium concentrations were markedly lower than those reported in Patella caerulea from five stations in Favignana Island (Sicily, Italy), by Campanella et al (2001) (2.62-5.00 µg g −1 ), (1.07-9.12 µg g −1 ) and in samples from Canary Islands by Diaz et al (1992) (0.81 µg g −1 ). But findings slightly higher than those of the present study were reported in samples collected from the northern part of the Rijeka Bay (average 0.50 µg g −1 ) (Ozretic et al, 1990) and along the Mediterranean coast of Spain (average 0.45 µg g −1 ) (Pastor et al, 1994). A number of species of marine gastropod are differentially selective for the accumulation of a range of metals (Nicolaidou and Nott, 1990).…”

“…Mercury concentrations in Patella caerulea from the Tyrrhenian coast ranged from 0.03 to 0.42 µg g −1 wet weight while in the vicinity of a chloro-alkali plant, high values reaching 1.42-4.04 µg g −1 wet weight were registered (Renzoni, 1980). In Patella caerulea samples from the northern part of the Rijeka Bay (Yugoslavia), one of the most heavily industrialized regions of the eastern Adriatic coast, the content of mercury was 0.22 µg g −1 wet weight (Ozretic et al, 1990). Compared with other studies, our cadmium concentrations were markedly lower than those reported in Patella caerulea from five stations in Favignana Island (Sicily, Italy), by Campanella et al (2001) (2.62-5.00 µg g −1 ), (1.07-9.12 µg g −1 ) and in samples from Canary Islands by Diaz et al (1992) (0.81 µg g −1 ).…”

“…Unlike other bivalve species, for which, there are a lot of data on concentrations of metals (Eisler 2010), studies on metal concentrations in soft tissue of Noah's Ark shells are generally lacking. A and according to our knowledge, only two short reports on concentrations of several trace metals in this shellfish have been published (Ozretić et al 1990;Cuculić et al 2010).…”

“…This study presents a statistical model that is able to show the relationships between five metals -Cd, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Pb -and the weight of the samples of Monodonta turbinata (Born), a species already used in recent years as a bioindicator for trace metals in marine ecosystems [4,[8][9][10]20].…”
