Assessment of Cyber Security risks: A Smart Terminal Process

Abstract: In Finland, the connections to global maritime transportation logistics systems are an essential part of the national critical infrastructure. As a part of maritime logistics systems, the port's operations are important elements for global maritime traffic and the transportation supply chain. Digitalization of seaport services makes it possible to increase the efficiency of terminal systems in the logistic processes. At the same time, port logistic processes can notably reduce its CO2 emissions by optimizing p… Show more

“…However, these advancements have also introduced new cyber threats, making risk assessment at ports a topic of critical importance. This is adeptly discussed by Poyhonen et al [51], who proposed a risk assessment methodology tailored to smart port operations while shining a light on the inherent cyber threats and defensive measures in the evolving maritime environment. Similarly, Progoulakis et al [52] underlined the emerging vulnerabilities due to the integration of IT and OT systems in global ports, championing the use of tools such as security risk assessment and bow-tie analysis to manage these cyber-physical security susceptibilities while emphasising the importance of regulatory compliance and continuous evaluation.…”
