“…The within-day reliability of PLM-H trends slightly lower than the high-end range of within-day reliability of FMD (CV = 9.8-33.7%; ICC = 0.62; Derella et al, 2019;Donald et al, 2008;Ghiadoni et al, 2012;Harris et al, 2006;Onkelinx et al, 2012). “…Recently, our group provided the first evidence of both conduit- and microvascular endothelial dysfunction in young patients with CF [8, 9]. The FMD test not only is reproducible in patients with CF [33] but also allows for noninvasive assessment of vascular endothelial function [46] and, importantly, NO bioavailability [7]. NO-dependent vasodilation is perhaps the most important signaling function of the endothelium due to the protective effect against the development of atherosclerosis [34].…”

“…The reason given (if any) for opting out of the sub-group was primarily a lack of time owing to the additional burden of the test and in some cases participants did not want to be fasted for their clinic visit. FMD is a non-invasive assessment of nitric-oxide dependent endothelial function [24] and has recently been shown to be reliable and repeatable in individuals with CF [25]. Participants were asked to arrive for testing having fasted for 8 hours and avoided vigorous activity for 24 hours, all participants were non-smokers.…”
