Assessment of left ventricular function with computed tomography and magnetic resonance in patients with low ejection fraction scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting: a preliminary study

Abstract: IntroductIon Reliable estimation of left ventricular (LV) parameters with the use of computed tomography (CT) has not been verified in patients with low ejection fraction (EF) so far.objectIves The aim of this preliminary study was to assess the agreement between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CT in the assessment of the LV volume and EF in patients with low EF scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). PAtIents And methodsIn 18 patients (2 women, 16 men) with the EF of 40% or lower scheduled … Show more

“…Delirium, although higher in the ONCAB group, we believe is multifactorial and cannot be solely attributed to CPB, although the higher incidences compared to the OPCAB group highly suggest it [19,20]. The higher incidence of complications may lead to significantly longer ventilation times, length of stay at the ICU, and subsequently, a longer overall length of stay in the ONCAB group; these findings correlate with the current literature as well [2,6,17,18]. These results are depicted in Figure 1.…”

“…When comparing postoperative complications, our findings correlate with what can be found in the literature. Patients in the ONCAB group have a higher rate of re-sternotomy due to bleeding, ECLS therapy, acute kidney injury, delirium, and sepsis [2,6,7,[15][16][17][18]. We believe the higher rate of bleeding, ECLS therapy, acute kidney injury, and sepsis may be directly correlated with the use of CPB due to reasons mentioned earlier.…”

“…DSCT is an important tool for evaluating both LA and LV function in patients with severe arrhythmia [14], including AF [7,15], and in patients with sinus rhythm [1,8,16,17]. LA and LV function and volume measurement were reported to be comparable between DSCT, echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance [1,14].…”
