Background The toll associated with road traffic crashes (RTC) is high, and the burden of injury is disproportionately borne by pedestrians and motor riders, particularly in developing countries. This study synthesized the factors associated with motorcycle-related RTC in Africa. Methods The PICO framework and the PRISMA guidelines for conducting reviews were incorporated in searching, screening, and reporting the findings. Advanced search in five electronic databases (Google Scholar, PubMed Central, Scopus, CINAHL, and Embase) yielded 2552 titles and 22 from manual search, filtered for 2016 to 2022 (to generate 1699) and then further for primary studies (854). Through the title, abstract and full-text screening, 22 were appropriate for this review. Data extraction was done by the two researchers independently, and the results were compared. Convergent synthesis was adopted to integrate results, transformed into a narrative, and analyzed using thematic synthesis. Results The four main themes identified were the rider-related, non-rider-related factors, prevalence and severity of injuries from RTC, and the measures to reduce RTC. The behavioral factors associated with RTC were alcohol use, smoking, use of illicit drugs, tiredness of rider, poor knowledge on traffic regulations, more than one pillow rider, lack of rider license, non-observance of traffic regulations, and non-use of personal protective equipment. Road traffic crashes were common among younger age and male gender. Other factors identified included poor road network, unplanned stoppage by police, unlawful vehicular packing, increased urbanization, and slippery floors. Conclusion There is the need to institute multi-sectoral measures that target riders’ behavior change. Coordinated efforts should target governments, enforcement authorities, and regulatory bodies to enforce enactment that ensures safe use of roads.

Latar Belakang: Kekerasan merupakan salah satu penyebab kematian terbesar di dunia. Kekerasan dapat dibuktikan dengan menemukan tanda-tanda kekerasan pada jenazah yang tergambarkan dari jenis luka yang ditemukan. Jenis kekerasan dapat berupa kekerasan mekanik, fisika, maupun kimia. Berbagai data terkait usia, jenis kelamin, sampai pendapatan negara juga berhubungan dengan kejadian luka dan kekerasan. Objektif: Untuk mengetahui gambaran perlukaan jenazah di Bagian Forensik RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang Periode 2019– 2021. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif retrospektif. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik total sampling. Sampel berupa Visum et Repertum jenazah dengan perlukaan yang tercatat di Bagian Forensik RSUP M.Djamil Padang periode 2019– 2021. Analisis data secara univariat. Hasil: Hasil penelitian pada 77 VeR jenazah dengan perlukaan mendapatkan total luka sebanyak 1.463 buah dan jenis kekerasan sebanyak 83 buah. Kelompok usia terbanyak yaitu kelompok usia 30–59 tahun (42,9%), jenis kelamin terbanyak adalah laki-laki (77,9%), agama terbanyak adalah islam (96,1%), jenazah paling banyak merupakan golongan pelajar (19,5%), alamat terbanyak berasal dari Kota Padang (28,6%) dengan jenis kedatangan terbanyak merupakan rujukan dari fasilitas kesehatan lain (71,4%). Jenis luka terbanyak adalah luka lecet (58,2%), luka memar (19,2%), dan luka terbuka tepi tidak rata (11,6%). Jenis kekerasan terbanyak adalah kekerasan tumpul (92,8%). Kesimpulan: Jenazah dengan perlukaan terbanyak berada pada kelompok usia 30–59 tahun, lebih banyak laki-laki daripada perempuan, mayoritas jenazah menganut agama Islam, paling banyak merupakan golongan pelajar, dan alamat terbanyak berasal dari Kota Padang dengan jenis kedatangan paling banyak adalah rujukan dari fasilitas kesehatan lain. Jenis luka terbanyak adalah luka lecet, diikuti luka memar, dan luka terbuka tepi tidak rata dengan penyebab luka terbanyak adalah kekerasan tumpul.

Motorcycle crashes are a significant cause of injuries and deaths worldwide, with risky driving behaviors among motorcyclists being a significant contributing factor. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with risky driving behaviors among motorcyclists in an urban setting in Ecuador. Data were collected through observation of riders in the city of Loja, focusing on compliance with helmet usage, unfastened helmets, and distractions caused by cell phone usage while driving. The decision tree method was used to analyze the data. The results showed that wearing a helmet without fastening it and being distracted by the cell phone while driving were the most significant factors associated with unsafe driving behaviors among motorcyclists in Ecuador. Likewise, the riders of delivery motorcycles show more insecure behavior than those driving private motorcycles, especially when they are close to the economic center of the city. These findings can inform the development of road safety campaigns and the enactment of laws to reduce motorcycle accidents and improve rider safety.
