We aimed to evaluate the level of internet use and burnout syndrome among the physicians, nurses, and other employees working at a university hospital, to demonstrate the possible relationships between these two factors, and to define the relationships between both conditions and sociodemographic variables. Methods: The population of this study was selected by simple random sampling method and sample size was calculated considering a confidence interval of and an error rate of 0.05. A self-structured questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) were completed. Results: While emotional exhaustion and desensitization were significantly higher among surgical medicine physicians, emotional exhaustion levels were significantly lower among the participants who stated that their job selection was intentional. When the correlations between participants' age or their job experience and the scales were assessed, a significant negative correlation was found with internet addiction. There was a significant correlation between burnout subdimensions and internet addiction. Conclusion: This study suggests that factors such as method of preferring jobs, workload, and regular sleep, having hobbies, marriage and having children have significant effects on burnout and internet addiction.

Very few studies have been concerned with assessing the prevalence of burnout and depressive symptoms, especially during an infectious outbreak on non-frontline health care workers, such as a psychiatrist. In such instances, the role of psychiatrists and other mental health providers as a source of psychological support to the public and frontline workers is indispensable and valuable. This study aims to assess the prevalence of burnout and depressive symptoms, and their correlation, during the COVID-19 pandemic among psychiatry residents in Saudi Arabia. A total of 121 out of 150 psychiatry residents in Saudi Arabia completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory and Patient’s Health Questionnaire for the assessment of burnout and depressive symptoms. Around 27.3% reported having burnout and depressive symptoms, with a significant relationship between them. Participants in the first two years of training and having a history of receiving mental health treatment in the past two years were at higher risk. The need is urgent to increase investment in mental health services or risk a massive increase in mental health conditions in the coming months. Hence, the need to construct a plan to reduce this risk of burnout and depression among psychiatrists by developing preventative strategies to prevent burnout and promote wellness is more important than ever.

Sociodemographic questionnaire, STAI-I, STAI-II and BDI were administered to all first and second class students during the 2016-2017 academic year (n=290) at Firat and Dicle University. R Re es su ul lt ts s: : In this study, 151 of the students were in the first class (57 in the Firat University, 94 in the Dicle University), 139 were in the second class (53 in the Fırat University, 86 in the Dicle University). The average age of the students at the Firat and Dicle University are 19.65±1.72 (female), 20.37±2.05 (male). The results showed that there were no significant differences STAI-I (p=0.403), STAI-II (p=0.416) and BDI (p=0.083) scores between gender. There were significant differences BDI scores according to university (p=0.004) and STAI-I scores be-tween class year (p=0.002). The students whose fathers had primary and middle levels of educa-tion, had higher BDI scores (p=0.015).
