Association between Chronotype and Nutritional, Clinical and Sociobehavioral Characteristics of Adults Assisted by a Public Health Care System in Brazil

Abstract: Chronotype (CT) has been associated with predisposition to chronic noncommunicable diseases (CNCDs), such as diabetes mellitus and obesity. However, the effects of CT on individuals assisted by public health systems (PHSs) in middle-up economies are still poorly explored. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between CT and clinical, sociobehavioral and nutritional aspects in adults assisted by a PHS in Brazil. This is a population-based cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 380… Show more

“…On the one hand, the odd results of the unrobust MR analysis suggest that MR studies should be validated more widely with multiple methods. On the other hand, Reis-Canaan’s study showed that most morning chronotype individuals were elderly thin males with lower consumption of omega-6 and omega-3, sodium, zinc, thiamine, pyridoxine, and niacin, whereas evening individuals were younger, had higher BMI, and had higher consumption of the studied micronutrients [ 47 ]. This indicates that the association between diabetes and chronotype is extremely entangled.…”

“…On the day of the visit, a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), clinical periodontal examination, anthropometric measurements and evaluation of clinical, behavioral and sociodemographic characteristics were applied. Information about food consumption was collected with the help of a photo album and the FFQ was adapted to the size of the portions [ 31 , 32 ]. The Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), is a widely used dietary assessment tool that is used to estimate an individual’s dietary intake over a defined period of time, typically over the past month.…”
