Association between circulating tumor cells in the peripheral blood and the prognosis of gastric cancer patients: a meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: Research on the correlation between circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and gastric cancer (GC) has increased rapidly in recent years. However, whether CTCs are associated with GC patient prognosis is highly controversial. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the value of CTCs to predict the prognosis of GC patients. Design: A meta-analysis. Data Sources and Methods: We searched the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for studies that reported the prognostic value of CTCs in GC patients bef… Show more

“…CTCs, originating from malignant tissue, traverse into the peripheral blood circulation and disseminate to distant tissues ( McGranahan and Swanton, 2017 ). CTC, thus, emerges as a valuable liquid biopsy biomarker with multifaceted applications in early cancer detection ( Lawrence et al, 2023 ), diagnosis ( Gazzaniga et al, 2014 ; Xu et al, 2020 ; Deng et al, 2022 ), prognosis ( Jin et al, 2019 ; Pantel et al, 2019 ; Jin et al, 2023 ), monitoring ( Punnoose et al, 2012 ; Castro-Giner and Aceto, 2020 ), and treatment ( Yu et al, 2014 ; Praharaj et al, 2018 ; Alix-Panabières and Pantel, 2021 ).…”
