Association between IL-27 Gene Polymorphisms and Cancer Susceptibility in Asian Population: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background: Interleukin 27 (IL-27) has potent antitumor activity. Several epidemiological studies have designated that genetic variants of the IL-27 gene may contribute to various cancer susceptibility, but the data were inconclusive. Objective: The current meta-analysis aimed to address the association between IL-27 rs153109, rs17855750, and rs181206 polymorphisms and the risk of cancer. Data Sources: Our team has selected eligible studies up to May 1, 2020, from several electronic databases, including Web of… Show more

“…Ghavami et al [ 39 ] evaluated one genetic polymorphism located in the IL-27 gene, A964G , in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and demonstrated a higher risk to develop ALL for patients presenting the AG heterozygous genotype and G allele, a greater relapse rate and a worse therapeutic response for these patients. Similar results were obtained by Pu et al in patients with renal cancer and in patients with colorectal cancer, Moazeni-Roodi et al in a meta-analysis including patients with gastrointestinal cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer, Jahantigh et al in preeclamptic women [ 35 , 71 , 72 , 73 ].…”

“…Most of these studies have shown that the IL-27 rs153109 polymorphism significantly increases the risk of developing cancer. 34 However, no association was found between serum IL-27 levels and IL-27 polymorphisms. In a study conducted by Yu Jin Tong in patients with osteosarcoma, no significant relationship was observed be-tween rs181206 and rs153109 polymorphisms and IL-27 serum levels.…”

“…It is primarily produced by activated antigen-presenting cells and acts on T cells, NK cells, and other immune cells, thus regulating anti-tumor immunity through various mechanisms. A clinical metaanalysis [28] found that the IL-27 gene rs153109 polymorphism increases tumor susceptibility, and IL-27 gene rs153109 A>G polymorphism carriers have a higher risk of disease in heterozygotes, which is signi cantly associated with breast cancer. Lu et al [29] also showed that breast cancer patients had a signi cantly higher serum IL-27 level than healthy controls, and the serum IL-27 level was closely related to the clinical stage of breast cancer.…”
