Association Between Preoperative US, Elastography Features and Prognostic Factors of Papillary Thyroid Cancer With BRAFV600E Mutation

Abstract: Purpose: To investigate the value of US and elastography for predicting prognostic factors of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) in the positive BRAF V600E Mutation group. Materials and Methods: A total of 116 BRAF V600E Mutation patients with PTCs were enrolled in this prospective study, who were preoperatively evaluated by US, US elasticity imaging (EI), and Virtual Touch tissue imaging (VTI) and Virtual Touch tissue quantification (VTQ) of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging. Multivariate logistic r… Show more

“…Alongside traditional diagnostic techniques, such as lung ultrasound, acoustic palpation tissue quantification (VTQ) technology has emerged as a promising tool for evaluating lung tumors. VTQ is based on acoustic radiation force pulse technology, which uses low-pressure pulses to induce local micro-deformation and measure the velocity of shear waves generated by transverse deformation to quantify tissue hardness ( 8 , 15 , 16 ). This study applied VTQ technology to the dynamic and quantitative evaluation of lung tumors and found that the AUC of VTQ for diagnosing lung tumors was 0.67, with the optimal diagnostic cutoff being 3.33 m/s.…”

“…With regard to the conventional US features, Xu et al. ( 29 ) reported that solid component, marked hypoechogenicity or hypoechogenicity, microcalcification, ill-defined margins, and taller than wide shape were all not significant in positive BRAF V600E mutation patients with central LNM or lateral LNM. On the contrary, in the present study, US features including ill-defined margins and microcalcification were associated with LNM in positive BRAF V600E mutation PTCs.…”

“… 13 Previous studies have extracted morphological features from ultrasound (US) images for preoperative prediction of BRAF V600E mutation. 14 , 15 However, others have argued that ultrasound features are not closely associated with BRAF mutations. 16 , 17 Texture analysis, also known as radiomics, is a technique utilizing high-throughput mining of quantitative image features for precision diagnosis and treatment, providing a powerful tool for modern medicine.…”
