Association with joint damage and physical functioning of nine composite indices and the 2011 ACR/EULAR remission criteria in rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract: The associations of nine composite indices and ACR/EULAR remission criteria with functional status and joint damage progression showed high accordance, whereas the proportions of patients classified in the disease activity levels differed.

“…The routine use of a CDAI measure is practical and objective as it does not require laboratory data for its calculation. Moreover, it has presented good to moderate correlations with other clinical indicators of disease activity (DAS 28, EULAR and ACR) [15,[53][54][55][56]. Consequently, we believe our findings are robust.…”

“…What the actual impact and relevance of such changes in classification denote needs to be investigated and determined in further studies. A recent study comparing 9 conventional disease activity indices and the new American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatism remission criteria found no major differences among the evaluated indices in relation to physical functioning and radiographic progression as outcomes, despite marked differences in classification between the indices (40).…”

“…This MBDA score shows a high correlation with conventional 28-joint Disease Activity Score (DAS28) 5 . Because the indices of the disease activity score have an association with radiographic joint damage, MBDA score might also be a promising candidate for predicting radiographic damage progression 6 .…”
