Associations between contraceptive availability and rate of subsequent legal abortions in Colombia: A historical cohort analysis

Abstract: Most abortions are attributable to unplanned pregnancy. The Guttmacher Institute calculated that in 2015 to 2019 there were 64 unintended pregnancies worldwide per 1000 women and 61% of these ended in induced abortion. 1 The rate of unintended pregnancies and the proportion ending in abortion have increased in countries with restricted abortion compared with 1990 to 1994. 1
